Skaftini

Skaftini is a last mile delivery solution aimed at de-risking the movement of goods in and out of the township economies. This is done by using an IoT delivery box which tracks the physical state of all the enclosed goods throughout the delivery process.

A proof of concept was built using a smart lock to track if the box has been tampered, an IMU Sensor was used to keep track of the box’s movements and a GSM Modem was used to update all the sensor data to the cloud. Lastly a mobile application is used to access the box’s state whilst in transit, and upon successful delivery an authorisation signal is sent from the mobile app to unlock the Skaftini box.

The guiding philosophy behind the concept was that instead of building smart cities we should be looking to build smart townships economies!
